Charles Barkley & Sneakers

July 31, 2007

I guess there are blogs for everything, even sneakers. That one combines the topic of sneakers with Charles Barkley, and even has a few of The Round Mound of Rebound’s television commercials from YouTube.

Jason Campbell

July 31, 2007

The Baltimore Sun has this story about Jason Campbell stepping up to the leadership role as the Washington Redskins quarterback.

Money quote:

“You won’t ever hear me fuss a player out,” Campbell said. “I talk to men out here as a grown man. Like if we have a missed assignment, I’ll go up to the receiver and tell him what I saw, and I want to know what he saw. That way we can compromise together, and we’ll both know what each other is thinking. If you fuss a player out, what you’re doing is you’re making him mad at you. You’re not building any kind of relationship.”

Tre Smith

July 31, 2007

The Herald-Tribune in Florida has this article on Tre Smith

Money quote:

He’s not giving up football and also not dwelling on his decision to return to school.

“If it happens, it happens, if not, it doesn’t,” said Smith. “For now I’m done until I get finished with my master’s program.”

Troy Reddick

July 31, 2007

For those of you who like to keep up with former Auburn players but who may have missed this, The Birmingham News has a story about Troy Reddick. Reddick discusses his playing in the Arena Football League.

 Money quote:

“At Auburn I played guard and tackle and this is definitely a combination of both of those positions. I brought the finesse of the tackle and the tight pass blocking of a guard and I like it. It is the best fit for me. I can be a true guard and a true tackle at the same time and I have the ability to play center.”

Cleat Prints?

July 30, 2007

Apparently this is a tradition going back to 1960 at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa:

It was … in 1960 that the parade preceding the [annual A-Day scrimmage] would halt and allow the players to forever mark Denny Chimes with their hand and cleat prints. (from the Crimson White; see here also)

I can understand the idea behind the hand prints. But the cleat prints?

Ah, the Classy Crimson Ones

July 30, 2007

From this web site, we have this “joke”:

“Auburn uniforms are cleaned once a year because they are washed in Tide.”

I guess the host of that site has amnesia affecting his memory for the last 5 years.

I notice he also had to go back to 1985 to be able to post a video clip showing a Tide play against Auburn that he could be proud of.  I”m sure he’d rather not watch this one:

I found this interesting.  The AU Bookstore sells photos of the Auburn Tigerettes and Tiger Reps.  Check it out here.

Auburn vs Ole Miss - 2004, Part 2

July 30, 2007

Some more video clips from the 2004 game between Auburn and Ole Miss. The first clip is Travis Williams making an excellent on the Ole Miss quarterback. The second clip is a great reception by Cooper Wallace.

Thoughts and Prayers

July 30, 2007

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers Tyler Blake, an Auburn student who was injured in an automobile accident last Thursday.  You can read The Decatur Daily coverage here. Additional information on his condition and progress can be found here.

Thanks to reader S.M. who sent me an e-mail today to let me know about Tyler.

Groves on Auburn, etc.

July 30, 2007

The Times-Daily up in the northwest Alabama Shoals area had this story on Quentin Groves.  Money quote:

Groves said he’s fine with the Crimson Tide getting all the offseason attention. Like when Rocky went to the mountains of Russia to train for his fight with Drago in “Rocky IV,” the isolation and obscurity helps you focus.

“While your eyes are on Alabama, we’re over here doing what we have to do to get bigger, faster, stronger. While all the lights are shining on Alabama, we’re over here working in the dark,” he said. “I think we’re hiding in the weeds. There are a lot of things that bite you coming out of the weeds.”
